Editors’ Review

Time to kick your download speeds up a notch? How about 20 notches? With files mirrored on several sites, Gigaget Download Manager sped up downloads up to 20 times in our tests. Naturally, it can pause and resume downloads, pull down files in several threads, and integrate itself into Internet Explorer. (It’s supposed to integrate with Firefox, too, but didn’t in our tests). On the minus side, Gigaget Download Manager doesnt support scheduling and cant automatically sort downloaded files by extension. Also, each time we started a new download, it popped up a dialog window prompting us to install a Chinese language pack. Those shortcomings aside, Gigaget Download Manager can help users get the most out of a broadband connection. It’s not the best freeware option out there, but it’s not a bad one, either.
